Proper Care for Your Rubber Stamps

Proper Care for Your Rubber Stamps

From card making to scrapbooking, rubber stamps are a great addition to many different craft projects. Rubber stamps can be used over and over again making them well worth their initial cost. Because of the materials they are made from, rubber stamps appear to be indestructible. However, they must be cared for in order to last, and keeping them clean is the key.

The easiest way to clean your rubber stamps is with a stamp cleaner. Stamp cleaner generally comes in a bottle with a special applicator top to apply the cleaner directly to the stamp. After applying the cleaner, wiping the stamp with a paper towel and allowing it to dry is usually all you will need to do. Using an alcohol-free baby wipe to wipe down your rubber stamps also works well.

If you are using a water-soluble ink, it is possible to clean your rubber stamps with plain water and a sponge. Be aware however, that it is important to use a sponge that does not leave particles behind on your stamp. Take care not to soak your rubber stamps in water, as this might loosen the adhesive and cause your stamp to be unusable. It is also important that you do not use an oil based solvent, as it will deteriorate the rubber of your stamp.

Not only will keeping your rubber stamps clean give them a longer life, it will also ensure that you have a crisper and cleaner image for your upcoming craft projects.
